Abstract: This 32 page paper looks at the shipping industry, considering the way supply and demand effect the supply of new ships and the cost of scraping older ships at the end of their useful life. The paper looks at the economic cost, but focuses on the environment costs of scraping ship or the alternatives available. In considering the scraping of ships a case study is used.
