Abstract: A ten page paper which looks at the way in which the Boer wars of the nineteenth century had a significant effect on the cultural, political and economic development of South Africa in terms of the imposition of colonial rule, the domination of the majority black population by the white settlers, the establishment of apartheid and the eventual democratisation of the nation in the late twentieth century.
