Ethical Decision Making

Abstract: This 10 page paper considers a case supplied by the student; Alan is living at a bail hostel, progressing well, liked by staff and a positive influence on others he breaks a rule. The hostel manager has to decide whether or not to report that breach which will result in Alan being taken into custody. The paper considers the different approaches that maybe taken, looking at a duty based approach, as seen in the ideals of Kant, and a results based approach as advocated by Mills.
