Abstract: A 24 page research paper that offers a literature review and compilation of findings on research studies addressing the relationship between dissociation and childhood trauma. For the many children who are victims of emotional, physical or sexual abuse, trauma and stress are the most prevailing characteristics of their lives, a fact that has been shown to have serious psychological repercussions. Mental processes that concern thoughts, memories, feelings, and a sense of personal identity are normally integrated. Dissociation occurs when such processes become separated. This analysis examines current research in order to determine the correlation between dissociation and early childhood trauma, emphasizing the impact on neurological development.
