Paramedic Standards, British Columbia versus Ontario

Abstract: Although there are national guidelines, the standards for paramedics vary by region and province. This paper discusses the differences in certification standards for British Columbia and Ontario and finds that the two programs are dissimilar in that a paramedic can start working after completing a brief 80-hour training course in British Columbia, whereas all Ontario paramedics must be ALS certified.
