The Amputation of a Wrong Extremity: An Ethical Analysis

Abstract: A 4 page discussion of a case involving a surgeon's amputation of the wrong leg. The author presents key foundational assumptions relating to informed consent. Incidents relating to the event are enumerated. The conclusion is presented that hile the amputation of a wrong extremity is medically unacceptable, we must consider the entire set of circumstances that led up to such an action. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
