Proper Use of Scientific Skills

Abstract: A 5 page paper expanding on comments contained in the essay 'The Grandiose Claims Of Geneticists.' Sociologist Dorothy Nelkin concludes that 'scientists should restrain their tendency to oversell their work and consider the biases and beliefs that will ultimately shape the uses of a powerful science,' but scientists cannot afford to be too reserved about their work. Many researchers depend on grant money, much of it governmental in origin, for their research, and they have to sell that proposed research to those that ultimately will pay for conducting it. More common than 'overselling' work is the reserved approach to much of it. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
